Okay, so yesterday I decided to hit up the local park for a bit of tennis. I haven’t played in ages, and honestly, my skills are, shall we say, a bit rusty.

Free Tennis in Parks? Check Locations, Rules, court access

First things first, I dug out my old racket from the back of the closet. It was buried under a pile of who-knows-what. Gave it a good once-over, the strings looked okay, surprisingly. Then I grabbed a can of balls – the ones that still had a decent bounce, at least.

Getting There and Warming Up

Headed to the park, and lucky me, there was a court free! Before I even thought about playing, I did some quick stretches. Don’t want to pull a muscle, especially at my age, haha.

I started with some easy volleys against the wall. Just to get the feel of the racket and the ball again. My aim was all over the place at first. Balls flying everywhere! But slowly, I started to get my rhythm back.

The “Match” (aka Hitting Balls Around)

I didn’t have anyone to play with, so I just practiced my serves. Man, those were tough! I remembered how much I used to struggle with my serve. Some went in, some went way out, and some barely made it over the net. It was a mixed bag, to say the least.

  • Tried to focus on my toss. Keep it consistent, you know?
  • Worked on my * is powerful,right.
  • Totally failed to get any real spin on the ball. Something to work on!

After serving, I just hit the ball back and forth, trying to keep a rally going with myself. It’s harder than it sounds! I chased down balls, lunged for shots, and generally worked up a good sweat.

Wrapping Up

After about an hour, I was pretty tired. My arm was starting to feel it, and my legs were definitely feeling the workout. I packed up my gear, feeling pretty good. Even though I wasn’t exactly playing a Wimbledon-level match, it was great to be out there, hitting the ball, and getting some exercise.

Definitely need to do this more often. Maybe I’ll even find someone to play with next time. My forehand could use some serious work, though… and my backhand… and my serve… Well, you get the picture. It’s a work in progress!
